Part 3 of 4: Interviewing Author Kristine McGuire about her book ‘Escaping The Cauldron’

Recently, I have had the opportunity to review quite a few books that I was really impressed by.  One of those books was Escaping the Cauldron by Kristine McGuire. I received it and read through it in the same day. (Read my Book Review). I found myself so enthralled with the book, that I found myself looking up from my book and sharing stories and lines from the book, with people around me at work. Honestly, everyone’s interest was peaked.  This book was released on Charisma House back on September 4, 2012.  In the book Kristine McGuire talks about finding Christ, after a dedicated eight year journey as a Witch, Medium & Ghost-Hunter.

I am a skeptic about most things that I personally don’t experience. Well to be honest, there are many times I am even a skeptic about the ‘weird’ things I personally experience. As weird and crazy as some of Kristine McGuire’s experiences are, their is a truth to them that seems to ring boldly.  We are excited to have Kristine McGuire come to Lancaster on October 4th, at7:30pm.  Come out and enjoy our FREE Escaping the Cauldron: Symposium Night.  Before we engage her over coffee and conversation, here in Lancity – I wanted the chance to interview her on our blog first.

Some of my questions, are questions of mine own.  Some are devils advocates questions and yet other questions are ones that were relayed to me, to ask. My goal is to not spoil the book for anyone and to ask questions that merely peak the interest of others, and interest you in our FREE Symposium Night.

We are going to break this interview up into 4 parts.  Mostly, because I am a loaded question interviewer. So, instead of making this a extremely LONG singular blog, we will organize it accordingly.

Part 3: Dealing with, What’s in the Book?

Jeff: There were three crazy stories for me. Those being; The Vision with Artemis, The way in which you received your witch name/identity from a spirit and the story with your friend, in the car, in which the toy horse came up. How common were these type of visions and ‘insights’, for you?

Kristine McGuire: Very common. Meditation and visualization were a very strong part of my spiritual practice. The demonic spirits masquerading as goddesses, human spirits or “ghosts”, and as my spirit guides made full use of my openness to communicate with them.

Jeff: The Bible calls us to test the appearances of the Spirit. I am a closet Charismatic, as someone who understand the Holy Spirit and the powers of evil – what differences do you see in your ‘words of wisdom’ from the Holy Spirit in comparison to ‘Insights’ you would get from Spirits previously’?

Kristine McGuire: Words of Wisdom, spiritual discernment, and other such spiritual gifts from the Holy Spirit relate words which are biblical, point people to Christ, honor God and edifies/strengthens the church or believer, in their faith.

Kristine McGuire: The psychic medium “insights” or visions were always more self-serving in the end, pointed people to seeking further communication with the spirit being (rather than hearing from God) they twisted or contradicted scripture in some way, and resulted in deeper interest in the occult, mysticism, supernatural, paranormal, etc.

Jeff: You mentioned at one point, that your daughter noticed a man in the living room – that man being a spirit. Did your kids understand how deep you were in? Was this common for them? What can you suggest to parents on guarding our children and responding to our ‘Kids seeing things’?

Kristine McGuire: My older daughter understood how deeply I was involved. It was not common for them to experience manifestations, but it was getting to be more likely for her near the end – which is why it frightened her I think.

Kristine McGuire: I think parents need to make sure their kids understand from a biblical perspective the reality of the spiritual world, God’s authority over it, and how we as Christians have His authority and power in our lives. Parents do need to be discerning what they allow into their homes and remember that kids pick up on so much more than we give them credit for understanding.

Kristine McGuire: When it comes to responding to kids “seeing things”, this is once more an area of discernment. Children do have active imaginations. They can be easily influenced by what they read, see, or hear. However, they should not be immediately dismissed if what they report could be of a spiritual nature. Ask them questions. Determine if what they are experiencing has a basis in scripture or is more fanciful (or potentially a deception of the enemy as in seeing the ghost of a loved one such as a grandparent).

Jeff: Your FAQ on the back part of the book was amazing. I loved seeing you take on some hot topic issues, for instance the hit movie ‘Twlight’; which I’ve always held some reservation about (The need to Glorify such a Dark Entiny?). Tell me, what slack (if any) are you getting the most about your responses in that section of the book?

Kristine McGuire: Currently, I’ve not had much feedback on those particular “hot button topics”, which I do find surprising. Time will tell as more people (hopefully) read the book.

Jeff: What do you hope comes out of people reading your book?

Kristine McGuire: Discussion. The church needs to engage in this issue. Less fear of the unknown and looking to scripture for answers, as opposed to what popular culture is teaching through media.

Jeff: Recently, a friend of mine shared that she finds many Christians are not only finding great peace and hope through mediums and physics – but finding their faith in God extremely strengthened. What are your thoughts on this?

Kristine McGuire: The Bible tells us that God comforts those who mourn. This is accomplished through personal relationship with God, prayer, support from mature Christian friends and family. No where….NO WHERE…in the Bible does God say go to a psychic or medium for counsel, advice, or comfort. In fact, the opposite is true. We are admonished to stay away from those who dabble in or practice spirit communication and any form of sorcery or witchcraft. People say there faith in God is strengthened. My question – which god? Because it certainly is not God, who has revealed Himself through Jesus Christ, given us His Spirit, or His word (the Bible) who is speaking through or empowering psychics or mediums.

Jeff: In your book, you perfectly describe how their are subtle influences from the occult on our culture and media sources are captivating people’s interest, and opening inviting doors that people fall into. How do you suggest the oblivious person ‘be aware’?

Kristine McGuire: Know what the Bible says about these things. We must know and be fully aware of the truth in order to discern the counterfeit.

Jeff: You mention the ‘Scream’ that started your journey OUT of the occult. Share with us, how others responded to that sound, in your own group? It is a eerie sound.

Kristine McGuire: Yes, it’s a very eerie sound. They reacted to it as they do any Class A EVP. They thought it was weird; “proof” that some spirit was attached to the house, conformation of our shared experiences and other EVP’s also captured that night. To them it was simply “evidence of a haunting”.
